For a standard-sized bed you will need two of each of the following frame pieces: 54", 80", 42", and 16". Taking care to wear protective equipment such as safety goggles, a dust mask, and gloves, you can then assemble the frame pieces. Choose your mattress to fit your frame.
Select the type of new mattress you want with care. Some mattresses are much more comfortable on this type of frame than others are. Either a waterbed or a memory foam mattress is considered ideal for a pedestal frame.
A captain's bed is a popular style of pedestal bed frame. Children love them, and they offer a good storage solution for children's rooms which are often small. Drawers can be built into the pedestal base to hold toys or clothing. The space underneath can also be used to hide a trundle bed which will provide a place for a guest to sleep.
